Following recent meetings between Richard and Sue Symonds (Bujagali Trust), Geri Burton (Inspire group leader) and LP staff Mark Simmons, Sally Pearce and Caroline Kirby, much of the project work for our group has now been determined. We will be visiting orphanages, a nursery school, a primary school and a secondary school during our time in Jinja and undertaking maintenance tasks, painting classrooms, building benches, running sports sessions and assisting in the classroom.
In addition, the group will be undertaking an African art workshop with local students and painting a mural at Mutai School; helping to refurbish a nursery and making donations of toys, books and sports equipment in a number of locations.
Rich, from the trust, and Geri, our Inspire group leader, both flew to Uganda yesterday to begin preparations for our visit. They will be visiting schools, meeting staff and making on the ground assessments of what we have planned so that 'Team Uganda' can hit the ground running on arrival.
Rich and Geri will also be purchasing all the tools and materials required for our work locally in Jinja and, where necessary, hiring local workers to guide the LP group with particular skills as the work begins.
